Not all combustion generates enough carbon monoxide to trigger detection. In well-ventilated areas or during complete combustion (e.g., a gas stove’s blue flame or a car engine running smoothly), CO levels may be too low for the detector to activate.

DS-399 detects carbon monoxide (CO), not carbon dioxide (CO2). CO is a colorless, odorless, toxic gas produced by incomplete combustion. CO2 produced during complete combustion is generally harmless unless it is present in very high concentrations.

DS-399 is a portable detector that is ideal for travel, camping, or cars. It provides supplemental protection for the home, but it cannot completely replace a fixed carbon monoxide alarm that meets residential safety standards.
